Research
- Engagement and Expertise: Understanding and Overcoming the Public Trust Crisis: This report explores the mechanisms of public trust in two professions that rely on effective communication to be successful: journalism and healthcare. We interviewed members of the public, journalists and doctors to learn more about how trust is gained and lost and what trusting public engagement looks like in these fields.
- Moon, Y. E., Roschke, K., Nelson, J. L., & Lewis, S. C. (2023). Doctors Fact-Check, Journalists Get Fact-Checked: Comparing Public Trust in Journalism and Healthcare. Media and Communication, 11(4), 380-391.
- Voices Listening Project: We teamed up with Wick Communications and a group of ASU students to conduct in-depth interviews with Arizonans to learn more about their (mis)trust in local news. Based on the results, students developed and tested product prototypes aimed at improving public engagement and media literacy.
- COVID-19 Misinformation: Working with colleagues from ASU’s College of Health Solutions, we investigated people’s knowledge of commonly shared COVID-19 misinformation, examining variables that predict COVID knowledge and how those with high COVID knowledge advocate for sharing credible information.
